How listings work

Plain answers about where listings come from and what paid listings mean.

Where listings come from

Care providers come from the license lists published by the Delaware Division of Health Care Quality. Funeral homes come from the Division of Professional Regulation's license list.

Law firms, move managers and care managers come from each business's own website. We list one only after we find it on Delaware's business license list.

In Home and property, Delaware licenses electricians, plumbers, heating and cooling contractors and home inspectors as people. We list a business only when its own website shows one of these licenses. We then check that the license is active on the Division of Professional Regulation's list.

Delaware does not license roofers or landscapers. We check those against the Department of Labor's contractor registry, or Delaware's business license list. Neither one tests a business's skill.

In Professional services, Delaware licenses accounting firms and architecture firms as firms. We start from the Division of Professional Regulation's list and find each firm's own website. We list a firm only when its license is active.

Every listing shows what we checked it against and the date. It also links to that list, so you can check it yourself.

What a paid listing means

Some businesses pay to be founding members. Every founding member pays the same amount: $300 a year. In return they can add a description, their own contact details and a website link.

• Paid listings are always marked "Paid listing", right next to the business name.
• Paid listings are never placed above other listings. Every list is in alphabetical order.
• Paying does not change what we say about a business.

When a business can be removed

We remove a listing when a license ends, when the business closes, or when the business asks. Anyone can tell us about a mistake.
